Joyce Bowen increases her strength at Fusion Fitness

Train For Life – Joyce Bowen

When I first started at Fusion Fitness in 2014 I was only going to Core class on Saturday. I usually arrived before Fusion class ended and could see that it looked like a great class. I was drawn to the fast-paced dancing and decided to give it a try. I loved it! At the time, I was also exercising outside of Fusion Fitness and was having problems with knee pain. In January of 2015, I met with Erica about Personal Training with hopes of strengthening my legs and knees. I began training and was not only seeing improvement, but enjoying it. Then I received the diagnosis that I had breast cancer. It was clear after talking with the doctors about taking chemotherapy that my participation in Fusion & Personal Training were going to stop temporarily due to lack of energy. I believed Core was my only option. Erica asked if I would like to try to continue my Personal Training on days when my energy level was up but not on the same schedule as before. She thought the exercise might also help me stay positive in dealing with the emotional aspects of everything that I was going through. I knew I had my faith and the support from my church, family and friends but I thought the exercise would also help. I took her up on the offer and what a blessing it was!

For the next few months I still participated in Core and some Personal Training. Even though I was still exercising, it wasn’t as much as before. I lost some overall strength, but not nearly as much as I would have if I had not been exercising at all. That became even more evident the morning after my surgery. I was sitting up in the bed with my hands behind my head when the surgeons came in to see how I was doing. They were very surprised to see that I could raise my arms that high and told me that most people could only lift their arms a small amount after the surgery. I credit the team at Fusion Fitness for keeping me as strong as possible during that challenging period.

I started going to Fusion class again in 2016 and still continue with Core and Personal Training. Regaining all of my strength is still a work in progress, but I know I have the support of the team.

I am now participating in My Healthy Goals in order to eat better and to lose some weight. I know the weight gain is partially due to the medication that I have to take to reduce the risk of the cancer returning, but I also know that I need to improve my eating habits for the rest of my life. Without a doubt, Fusion Fitness helped me become stronger with exercise and proper nutrition so that I am at my best when my husband and I are hiking, scuba diving, or just enjoying life.

Mike and Erica and the entire team will work with you to achieve your goals and fight the struggles of life by keeping you as strong as possible. They demonstrate their belief in good nutrition and exercise continually, and will help you do the same. The classes are fun and you never feel judged. They are always there to help you improve.

Joyce Bowen is only one piece of the puzzle! Stay tuned for the next Train For Life where we’ll hear from her husband, Nigel. #FusionFitFamily
